Cowes Town Council for some years has wished to see the War Memorial in Northwood Park refurbished and updated with a more complete list of those servicemen who fell in the two World Wars.
Much research was conducted to enable a list of all those servicemen who died in World War I and World War II to be honoured on engraved plaques surrounding the War Memorial.
The project cost £7,300. This was funded by a grant which Cowes Community Partnership secured for £952; the remainder was funded by Cowes Town Council.
Cowes Town Council selected the following contractors after tendering for the scheme:
Wight Stonemasonry provided seven 1½ inch thick honed black granite plaques with gold gilded lettering.
GJ Banks (IW) Ltd carried out stonework to the War Memorial.
The work was completed in time for Remembrance Sunday, 13th November 2010.
