WELCOME TO COWES A WELCOME FROM OUR MAYOR CLLR GEOFF BANKS. Thank you for logging on to Cowes Town Council's website. Cowes needs little introduction to most of you, its name for some 200 years has been synonymous with world class yacht racing. Here in Cowes we are proud of that heritage where the America's Cup race was born in 1851, where we annually hold the largest entry yacht race anywhere in the world and where Dame Ellen MacArthur and Shirley Robertson OBE, two 21 st century heroines of yachting, reside. But Cowes is more than just yachting when the town steps up a gear for its powerboat races and, throughout the summer season, opens its doors to the welcome tourists who flock to the town. There is always something to see and something to do whether your interests are on or off the water. Our vibrant little community bursts at the seams during our famous Skandia Cowes Week when the town sees the rich and famous here to race in the Solent waters along with the weekend yachtie in his small sail boat. Our Town Council welcomes all visitors and we have produced our website to allow you to find out all about us and how the town of Cowes is managed. So why not browse through our web pages and learn more about Cowes and its Town council.
